CHIEF LEARNING OFFICER
BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON
Skills normally learned over years, now acquired in hours
A funny thing happens when employees build their business acumen skills: they lead.
Or to put it another way, they start acting less like employees and more like business owners.
Our business experience shows that your employees will make tremendous gains in their contributions to the bottom-line when you increase their capabilities in just a handful of essential competencies: business finance and strategy, marketing, project management, leadership, innovation and building trust.
At Blueline Simulations, we have dramatically compressed the long cycle of learning for these complex skills. With our immersive business simulations and classroom training solutions, we will build essential business capabilities for cross sections of your employees and managers, in large and small groups.
Understanding dollars makes sense
We understand that your employees are skilled at their jobs and committed to the success of the organization. But many lack a big picture of how a business runs. The result? Confusion about the “why” behind strategic direction and lack of commitment.
Now imagine what would happen if your people had a nuanced understanding of how every one of their actions either hurt or built the value of the enterprise.
Blueline Simulations delivers highly engaging and scalable learning visuals and business simulations that teach the fundamentals of business strategy and finance.
Financially educated employees:
- Understand the numbers and the story behind them.
- Know the true costs of their actions and decisions.
- See what their personal impact is on the company’s finances.
- Know how to create greater value to the organization.
The need:
A mortgage represents a series of complicated transactions, especially when these securities are transferred from one financial institution to another. Very often the consumer/borrower and bank employees lack an inclusive perspective of the full process.
One of the top five financial services companies in the world wanted to rectify this by giving their mortgage service employees a holistic view of the business. With this shared understanding, they hoped to expedite problem resolution, increase interdepartmental teamwork, and increase the value that their associates created for the organization.
The Blueline Simulations solution:
Blueline partnered with the company to create a business orientation experience that would quickly engage employees and give them a comprehensive understanding of the life cycle of a mortgage loan. The resulting BlueprintTM depicted the mortgage process in a visual and metaphorical way that rendered the many complexities of the process in an intuitive whole.
The results:
The BlueprintTM was successfully rolled out not only in the U.S. but to the company’s international service offices as well. Originally conceived as a core component in new-hire orientation, the company decided that every employee could benefit from the experience. The company reported that the training allowed for better cross-departmental communication and cooperation.
The global human resources group of a leading (and growing) manufacturer of diesel engines and power generation products was challenged to improve overall performance and communication. They also wished to bolster their stakeholders’ perceptions of the speed, efficiency and innovation demonstrated by company systems and processes.
The Blueline Simulations solution:
As part of the overall solution, the Global HR Group came together for the The Speed of Trust® simulation and workshop. During this immersive experience, they explored the benefits of building high trust among team members, and the impact of trust in achieving performance standards. They also analyzed their stakeholders’ views of their performance, overall competence and the resulting level of trust that they showed toward the team’s capabilities.
Those conversations, supported by critical team and self-assessments, helped them to prioritize the behaviors they needed to strengthen. Participants reported that the simulation enabled Global HR Leaders to have candid conversations about the character and competence of their leadership team – all in the safe and positive environment made possible by the team-based board simulation.
The results:
The Global HR Group discovered that trust is far more than a “soft” skill and committed to treating it as a critical driver of organizational performance.
By focusing on building trust the Global HR Group has elevated the team’s performance, and is viewed by their stakeholders as a strategic business partner.
